AO Racing’s Spike Soars to Points Lead Following Road America Victory

ELKHART LAKE, Wis., (August 4, 2025) – AO Racing continued its dominant streak on Sunday at Road America, securing a commanding victory in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 class with the No. 99 Spike the Dragon Oreca. With a flawless drive from PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron, the team led flag-to-flag in the 65-lap sprint, surviving four full-course cautions and capitalizing on their home track advantage in the two-hour and 40-minute race.

Starting from pole position for the third consecutive race (Watkins Glen, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Road America), Hyett set the tone early, holding strong through the opening stages before handing the car off to Cameron, who maintained control through the chaotic second half of the race. The win marks AO Racing’s second straight IMSA victory, Spike’s fourth win in a row across the team’s IMSA, European Le Mans Series, and Le Mans efforts,  and extends the team’s championship lead to a commanding 107 points.

DRIVER QUOTES

PJ Hyett
It’s a wonderful feeling for the entire AO Racing crew, to earn back-to-back victories in Canada and now at our home race at Road America. It was a perfect weekend. I was able to put the car on pole and hand it over to Dane in the lead, and of course, he brought it home right where we started. It’s an absolute dream weekend for us. I couldn’t be happier.

Dane Cameron
It felt like our win at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park was a little bit of a gift, and I don’t want to take too much away from that, but I wanted us to win again and make it clear that we’re strong and fully capable of leading this championship. I’m really proud of all the boys and girls at AO Racing. It’s amazing to get another win for Spike and take over the championship lead with just two rounds to go. We’ve got great momentum, confidence, and pace—both in the car and across the team. Now we just need to keep pushing and close out the championship strong.
