AO Racing Doubles Down: Spike the Dragon Wins IMSA WeatherTech LMP2 Championships

St. Charles, Ill., (October 16, 2025) —For the second consecutive year, AO Racing has captured both the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Team and Driver titles, this time in the LMP2 class with its fan-favorite dragon, Spike. Full-season drivers PJ Hyett and Dane Cameron powered the No. 99 Oreca 07 Gibson to championship glory, joined by Johnny Edgar for the five endurance rounds of the seven-race season.

Following last year’s GTD Pro triumph with Rexy, AO’s Porsche 911 GT3 Rawr, the team delivered another championship this season marked by consistency, speed, and unmistakable character. The team’s efforts secured not only the overall team and driver titles but also a sweep of key IMSA honors, including a second consecutive year of winning Most Pole Positions, the VP Front Runner Award for leading the most laps in the most races, and the BDO Knows Strategy Award for outstanding race execution and pit strategy.

Adding to the list of accolades, PJ Hyett earned the Jim Trueman Award, presented to the top bronze-rated driver in LMP2 competition. With the award comes an automatic invitation to compete in the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans, presenting the team the opportunity to defend this year’s win at the legendary endurance event.

This achievement caps off a monumental season for AO Racing, which earlier this year claimed victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Spike the Dragon and now stands on the verge of another potential title in Europe. The team enters this weekend’s European Le Mans Series finale, the 4 Hours of Portimão, in contention for the LMP2 Pro/Am championship, with hopes of completing an unprecedented transatlantic triple crown.
