AO Racing’s Jurassic Throwback Introduces “Sketchy”

COSTA MESA, Calif. (April 25, 2026) – As the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship weekend heads to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca for a special retro-themed weekend, AO Racing is taking a creative approach to honor its limited past, by revisiting the moments before Rexy, the Porsche 911 GT3 RAWR was born.

Saturday at Air|Water, the team introduced “Sketchy,” a sketched, concept-style version of the team’s brainstorming phase that brought their beloved dinosaur to life. The team, still early in its journey, lacks a deep historical archive to pull from, so instead they will represent the time when he was an idea taking shape.

“When I heard Laguna Seca was going to be IMSA’s first official throwback event, I was very excited as a long time sportscar fan,” said Team Principal Gunnar Jeannette.  “It did create an interesting problem for AO, as our team doesn’t have much history to throwback to!  So, instead of a historic livery, we through our fans would appreciate seeing Rexy turn into his origin Story & first sketch.  What better place for us to unveil Sketchy to the world than Air|Water.  It’s a great opportunity to launch a fun project with the Porsche Community here in Southern California.”

For April 25th’s Air|Water and the May 3rd Laguna Seca race only, Rexy’s livery will feel like it came straight off a designers sketchpad. With rough, hand-drawn strokes, green marker scribbles, and concept shading, Rexy’s signature feathers are intentionally imperfect, appearing as if they were drawn mid-creative session.

Sketchy captures the developing creativity behind Rexy’s creation, celebrating the early stages of the ideas before he became the fan-favorite dinosaur that has since captured the hearts and imaginations of motorsport fans worldwide.

A limited run of Sketchy-themed merchandise is now available at aoracing.com and will be on site at Air|Water and next weekend’s race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

The IMSA WeatherTech Monterey SportsCar Championship race at Laguna Seca takes place Sunday, May 3 at 1:10 PM PT. Fans based in the USA can watch live on Peacock, while international fans can tune in via the IMSA YouTube Channel.
