Looking back on the second race weekend of the year in the WEC, team boss Axel Funke praised the cooperation and professionalism of his team’s work.

The busy Project 1 front man knows that his motivated team did an excellent job on this race weekend. “The preparations went smoothly and the knowledge gained at Sebring was put to good use. De Porsche RSR 19 was optimally prepared, fast and reliable in practice, qualifying and also in the 6-hour race, according to Portuguese driver Miguel Ramos “I felt safe and comfortable straight away, the car gives me confidence”. With the driver line-up we were stronger than we estimated before the race”, says team manager Axel Funke, “but the podium remained out of reach due to two drive troughs”. At the end of the six-hour race there was a hard fight and unfortunately the differences worked to our disadvantage. Of course, the cooperation between and with the three drivers was also new. Platinum driver Matteo Cairoli knows the car and the team inside out, and he was able to share this experience well with his new Portuguese colleagues. The cooperation between the new drivers Miguel Ramos and Guilherme de Oliveira with the team was very positive from the beginning.

Of course, as a sportsman, you always want more, always better performances. As Project 1 – AO we want to fight for victory, we did, we do, and so the goal is set for the 3rd race of the season, in Spa Franchorchamps in 14 days.

We will be on the grid in Belgium with Matteo Cairoli, PJ Hyett and Gunnar Jeannette,” says Axel Funke

Project 1 looks back on DTM test Spielberg with satisfaction

“The test weekend at the Red Bull Ring is confirmation that we are on a good path towards the start of the season,” says Marcel Jürgens-Wichmann, Project 1 team manager. “We are aware that we are newcomers in this class, but when I look at the experience we gained this weekend, we have achieved a lot. Together with our driver Marco Wittmann, we have already thoroughly evaluated the test. We are very happy with his performance and the reliability of the Schaeffler BMW M4 GT3. The cooperation between the engineers and Marco is good.

The second BMW M4 GT3 was also picked up on the way to Austria, prepared and tested on site. Based on the experience of the test weekend, there are still some improvements in detail that we want to implement. But that’s what a test weekend like this is for, of course. Another test programme is being planned.”

The test at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg was combined with the ADAC – DTM media day.
